One of the sources mentioned in comment #63 now has to be changed to:

In Ubuntu 10.04, I installed the ppa version of gwibber. I can confirm
that now it works by deleting the files as explained in #65 and #89,
including .config/gwibber/* and .gconf/apps/gwibber/*

I don't know if this is the right place to report this but I have had
also problems with the ubuntu upgrade using an old Nvidia Geforce 440 Go
card. I installed the old nvidia-glx-96 using the 2.6.31-17-386, but the
modules didn't compile. So, I tried the 2.6.31-17-generic kernel and it
works. Mayb

You can solve it by changing the first line of
/usr/bin/kopete_latexconvert.sh from#!/bin/sh to #!/bin/bash
It seems that the author assumes sh links to bash, and I think it is not
the case for Ubuntu distributions.

iso8859-1 and utf8 to use these files. Sorry.

Oops. There was a confusion and I made an error in the description of
the problem. The files which were extracted as iso-8859 are those in the
solaris machine and I can see them correctly using kubuntu through ssh
by changing the default charset as described in my previous post.
