I have the same issue with Jaunty. I have also tested on Karmic and the bug is a bit different. First thing is that brightness can now go up to 15 instead of 13 in Jaunty (in /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/brightness). This matches what's reported in /proc/acpi : cat /proc/acpi/video/VGA/LCDD/br
