I'm seeing something similar. I have a Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 Motherboard. Another user on the Ubuntu Studio IRC with the same motherboard was reporting the same problem. Tried renaming the ~/.xine folder to .xine.old and rebooted for good measure. No dice. Amarok is still complaining that mp3 support is not installed, when you click the button to install it nothing happens.
