Same problem here. After upgrading from Karmic Koala to Lucid Lynx I
ended up with two kernels in my boot loader:
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, kernel 2.6.32-22-generic
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, kernel 2.6.31-19-generic
The kernel 2.6.32-22-generic does not boot. I see a black screen after I
select it and the comput
This bug also affects me. I think that pulse is conflicting with the
previous alsa libraries that were before updating to karmic. For some
reason this installation is not clean.

Here is how I got it to work. (Wicked way):
1. Start in "recovery mode"
2. Select "drop to root shell prompt"
3. run "telinit 3"
voila!
Gnome starts in tty7 as usual and the other ttys are available.
I have no idea if this information can help to resolve the issue.
Thanks!

I deleted all the nvidia stuff. I reinstalled it from scratch updating
the driver to the version recommended for Jaunty (190.18) and the tty's

I am attaching my new (definitive) xorg.conf that includes the NVIDIA

I remove the nvidia driver and configured my xorg.conf to use vesa. Now
all the tty* are working. However my Gnome has a rather bad resolution.

Public bug reported:
Though there are similar bugs reported, I can see the black screen with
the blinking cursor (text mode) and I can go back to gnome
(Ctrl+Alt+F7). My problem is that in the other consoles there is not
login option, only the blinking cursor.
