Hi Chris.
my host is a custom distro derived from Ubuntu with custom 3.13 kernel, guest
is a plain 12.04 x64.
i have performed steps 1-6, this is how i isolated your patch:
1) sudo apt-get install linux-source-3.2.0=3.2.0-63.95
2) make -j3 deb-pkg, this produces linux-image-3.2.59_3.2.59-0_amd64
this patch:
drm/vmwgfx: correct fb_fix_screeninfo.line_length
(https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/2/1/41)
introduces a regression in vmware video drivers widely reported here:
https://communities.vmware.com/message/2388776
i also reported it here against xserver-xorg-video-vmware here:
https://bugs.laun
regression is caused by a this patch applied with the 3.2.0.58 ->
3.2.0.59 update which happened between -64 and -65 (LP#1319885):
drm/vmwgfx: correct fb_fix_screeninfo.line_length
rolling back just that one patch fixes the issue.

ftruncate DoS on ecryptfs
i can confirm that it is not fixed in upstream and it only affects
32-bit systems where size_t is an unsigned int while loff_t is long
long. on 64-bit archs size_t is unsigned long which means it's 64-bit as
well.
ecryptfs_* functions need to be converted to use loff_t everywhere.

seems pointless - as you can see from attached strace, it does not touch

confirming - same crash, same trace.
