I have this problem here as well on Ubuntu 12.04 and 12.10. It only
appears when using Unity (Compiz). Unity 2D (metacity), XFCE (xfwm),
Gnome (gnome-shell) do not trigger the bug.
I have created a simple test program (adapted from the one provided in
bugreport 1018600).
Compile: gcc mousetest-ex
Same thing here with my Thinkpad T61.
Workaround: After resuming, press once "Cancel" and move the mouse again.
Fingerprint sensor will work now.

Virtualbox's fullscreenmode (Host + F) is enabled.

I'm currently using Tribe5 and I found exactly this "problem". Since there are
"Desktop Effects" enabled by default, there should be at least a notice in
"gnome-appearance-properties" -> "Desktop Effects" that they are only available
for the first user of the X-Server-session.
