/usr/share/icons/default/index.theme is just a symbolic link.
instead of modifying the oxygen file directly, run the following
command:
sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme
i'm not sure which one is the default for gnome ubuntu, maybe someone
with a clean gnome ubuntu install can hel

Thank you all for your help, Yes it's unclear whether this is a BIOS/"Computer
Manufacturer" problem or a linux kernel problem.
I've had this problem when running Debian, Ubuntu and Fedora.

The trick of turning it off doesn't work all the time. sometimes I have to do
that step of ctrl+alt+del and power off 4 to 5 times for it to work.
Please let me know how to collect the data needed such as logs that
would help in determining and fixing this bug.

when i have multiple tabs of tmz.com open, firefox slows down to a
crawl. i have over 2 gigs of memory and 8 gigs of swap so firefox should
be able to handle 4 or more tabs of tmz.com

When i have amarok playing and i start musescore (mscore), amarok playback
freezes and musescore is allowed to "make sounds".
once i close musescore the playback on amarok resumes from where it froze.

Hello,
sometimes when I boot my machine (dell inspiron 530), ubuntu seems to
get stuck on "waiting for root filesystem" phase.
I do a ctrl+alt+delete turn off the computer and turn it back on and it
then works fine.
