I have a similar issue with an Intel sandy bridge graphic card, As for
this bug report the issue started after upgrading to 15.10 ...
I can switch on the external monitor but this cause both the screen to
start to have distorted images and not stable images ( basically not

I'm not sure why but if you boot with systemd you are supposed to set
the limits in service file first:
LimitNOFILE=infinity
LimitMEMLOCK=infinity
After that mysqld service will be allowed to open more connect
I re-added systemd because It affect the systemd boot option so I think
it is good to have it listed with other problems with systemd and vivid.
( maybe it is bad idea in that case remove it )

- watch echo 255 > /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/pwm2
If you set the speed directly using sysfs you don't have the lag, this point
out that the lag occurs only when you read the speed of the fan, indeed if try
to read the speed with sysfs you still hav

Same Issue here in 12.10:
i have created a pptp VPN connection, I can connect but after a minute
or two it freeze ( ping, svn, navigation all freeze ) and the only way
to re-enable it is to reconnect.
It is very frustrating because I need it to work with svn and I'm not
able to checkout a reposit
Did some test here and I thinks I find out the origin of the issue ( comment
#19 gave me the right hint, about overlay ):
Basically if you:
- disable composite ( sorry till now I cannot find a better solution )

- [VLC] deselect this option: Video -> Display -> Accelerated video output

I'm using xfce and empathy 3.6 ( old comment say the fix would be ready for
empathy 3 ... ).
I'm not completely sure but I think that this bug is present only if you use
anything that is not Unity ( got the same on e17 ).

related to prelink bug so ...
... I'm trying this solution in order to exclude skype from prelinking :
1. Add this line to /etc/prelink.conf

It happens after halt as described above ... Only fix is to purge skype and
then reinstall, but next halt lead to the same 'core dump'.
I can add that this is started after update to 12.04 and i'm on 64bit.
