I'm pretty sure this is the same bug. I find that any program which uses
hotkeys will cause SCIM to lock up if Ctrl+[key] is pressed.
Furthermore, I tried the fix posted in this original bug report
(changing /.scim/config) and it caused my keyboard to lock up without
pressing Ctrl...

strangest thing if you do "find & replace" in kile after defining a
shortcut (I use the old Alt+6) for pdflatex, the next time you use the
shortcut you will get the message
"Ambiguous Shortcut Detected: The key sequence 'Alt+6' is ambiguous. Use
'C

SCIM often causes the keyboard to stop responding when using kile. Last
time it happened after using Backspace to erase several letters in a
row, although no particular keystroke seems to initiate the failure to
respond. This is not an issue related to compiling the .tex file.
