when I launch blender in window mode with compiz enable, by the menu or
by typing blender -w in the terminal, it run fullscreen, no way to have
it windowed with compiz enable on gutsy up to date. I try again with
blender 2.45 and same thing.

same here, and same solution, click validate on the error message and
play, and validate, and play, and sometimes the second time, or
sometimes the fifth time of clicking, the movie play fine, with good
quality and encoding of subtitles.
