@Stuart, In my case, Caps Lock also has no effect, but strangely, if I "blind type" "shutdown -h now" it works, so the keyboard is obviously active. (Note: this is when I pm-suspend from a Ctrl-Alt-F1 terminal, of course.) Typing any other command that reads from disk also triggers the disk activ
