Also experiencing the same exact issue on a Dell Latitude D830.
Restarting NetworkManager doesn't help, nor does reloading the iwl3945
module, turning the wireless on/off via the physical switch, or any of
the other suggestions in this thread. Only solution is to reboot, and

I agree completely with vexorian with this issue. In light of PRISM, I
now have even greater aversion to recommending Ubuntu to a new Linux
user.

This bug is not fixed. Based on the outlined steps to repeat:
1. Visit a local PC store.
2. Attempt to buy a machine without any proprietary software.
At least in the Reno, NV area, the results of the "steps to repeat"
involve relatively-nonexistent availability of free-and-open-source

Jeremy: The difference between the Dash and, say, Google Now is that one
typically does not use Google Now to launch applications or find local
files (I don't know if that's even possible). Siri typically doesn't do
as much of those things either; it can launch apps, but since iOS

Jeremy: the fact that the Shopping Lens is opt-out instead of opt-in is
precisely why this bug exists. Is there some reason why shopping
results (or, better yet, web searches in general) couldn't be relegated
to their own separate lens icon in the Dash? Are users honestly using

Crap, I posted prematurely.
Anyway, based on the screenshot attached to my previous post, the
Brainstorm idea is clearly *not* implemented. So I suppose this remains
the most viable location, since it appears that criticism of Canonical's
precious Unity is unwelcome there.
Regardless, until this
I posted up an idea on Ubuntu Brainstorm about this, which I figure
would be a better vector for such things:

Unfortunately, the moderation staff doesn't agree, and marked it as
"already implemented".

I have a bit more information. Same symptoms, different desktop
managers.
I've noticed that this is *not* happening in Unity or KDE. However, it
*does* occur with both Xfce (known) and LXDE. Not sure if that helps,
but it might help find a common factor.

And amazingly I do have a workaround! Well, for AMD/ATI users at least.
If you have the proprietary AMD drivers installed, open up the Catalyst
Control Center and switch over to the "Color" screen. Tweak the "Gamma"
setting (make sure "All(locked)" is selected under "Select Color
Channel:") and
Here comes another "me too" message.
I'm experiencing the same bug. Dell Studio 1558 (AMD Radeon HD
standalone graphics adapter) with (K/X/L)ubuntu 12.04. I'm currently
using proprietary drivers.
This bug had occurred on this machine before (I think in 11.04 or

mom through booting off an Ubuntu 9.10 LiveCD to repair a Windows
installation on her Gateway laptop (I don't have the specs, sorry), but
she's getting the "fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed" error
message right after s
