bah works.. I had installed gstreamer thru cli and i was experiencing
the same problem, so it was tagged as installed..
I uninstalled and reinstalled, and now it works.

Unrelated but might worth consider a further investigation:
Evolution's spell checking had a similar bug, where the dictionary was
listed as installed-available, but it failed to catch the words for
spellchecking.
It had to do something about comparing strings with chars?Not really
sure, I think
I do seem to have the above, but spell checking doesn't work.
Here is an test string you can check abiword spellchecking:

from what i've googled, abiword uses hanspell for spell checking.
I do have installed myspell-el-gr, but no spell checking when i type in
greek (in abiword)
So there are two cases now : Its either the same package, and ubuntu
incorrectly reports "hunspell-dictionary-el" as obsolete or missing

yes i've seen bug 33288.
It's not the same, because it speaks about not retaining the format when
copy/pasting the extract.
Im talking that you cant select the desired text (or extract, as the
word text might refer to the whole document) when the document is
presented in a dual column format.
