The font corruption not only affects some fonts but not others, and some
letters, but not others, but some sizes and not others as well. if a
webpage has unreadable fonts, increase the page magnification a few
times and it will go away at higher pt sizes.

I have been seeing this off and on since 10.10 as well. Doesn't matter
which desktop environment, but I think it happens more with compiz.

I have the same problem. I started from a .doc and saved my changes as
.odt. I had to send a .doc copy to someone, but it crashes while saving

As a followup to my confirmation above, I have found a solution and I
don't experience this problem any more. Unfortunately, I'm not sure what
I did. I didn't change any drivers that I'm aware of. I tried changing
some settings and such, following recommendations I found on the net,
but nothing see
Same symptoms here with Intel graphics card on Acer Aspire 4720z.
Updated to 10.10 from 10.04 and it appeared after that.
