I am facing this issue still on 14.10 . I have all the updates pushed by
Ubuntu/Canonical. Earlier when I faced this issue, I removed the modem-
manager and it worked like charm. This was like 2 weeks back. Now from

I have all the latest updates. But some times my machine suddenly
crashes. So I looked at the /var/log/syslog and I reached this bug
report.

Not only empathy ,but even google chrome doesnt pick the proxy
settings.Guess if you are making major changes to the way the external
programs are picking up the settings, the ubuntu development should have
notified the respective teams or you should have taken care not to break
anything.
