I had forgotten I even filed this a decade ago. I don't really have such
a system to test with anymore, and it's not clear what more recent
versions of things would be worth testing with. I suspect this can just

Hmmm ... you mean you logged in with that Window Manager? I can't even
connect to the machine any more - and checking it locally, the same
issue here ... it's not even listening on the port any more.
Thanks though!

Arrgh ... OK, was having issues getting the new desktop working.
Uninstalled / reinstalled the display manager, moving it from lightdm to
gdm3 (the default, right?) => now VNC is broken on the second machine as
well ... :-(.

Hi,
Interestingly enough, I just upgraded a machine from 17.04 to 17.10 ->
VNC works fine. But the machine that was on the alpha / beta builds
still isn't working.
Hmmm ... is there a way to "clean reset" x11vnc on the machine that was
running older builds? Seems this should be able to work.

"Connection lost to X server", so this sounds like the following entry
from Emacs's etc/PROBLEMS:
** When Emacs is compiled with Gtk+, closing a display kills Emacs.
There is a long-standing bug in GTK that prevents it from recovering
from disconnects: http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85

xdg-open can delegate to a variety of different helpers depending on your
environment.
If the one it ends up calling returns immediately rather than waiting, Emacs
thinks the associated process is done.

Public bug reported:
Hi,
x11vnc is running fine on my other machines (running earlier versions of
Ubuntu). But in Artful Aardvark (17.10), I have checked the service ... it's
active (running), and shows this pid/ command line,
1816 /usr/bin/x11vnc -auth guess -forever -loop -noxdamage -repeat -
Hi,
Just recently upgraded (16.04 LTS => 17.04), and I can confirm this bug
and workaround / fix as well. It definitely exists in 17.04.
Is the fix "OK"? Meaning what does it potentially break?
Thanks!

This failure also occurs because "log_slow_queries" has become
"slow_query_log", but the installer does not handle this change
automagically. Like the OP's error, nothing specific to it is mentioned
in the installation failure message.

Interesting - as I'm having to go back to 4.4.0-89 to get my machine to
boot ... kernel panic and hang on 4.4.0-91. I'm happy to take logs, just
not sure how to ... :-(

After several attempts it seems the system is stable.
What I've done:
1) installed the latest stable kernel (it appears to not solve completely the
problem):
2) switched to PLASMA dark theme on Kubuntu (it seems to not solve completely
the problem;
3) installed again NVIDIA official drivers;

I've tried to reproduce the issue: I've opened the start menu, then I've
passed the mouse cursor over the Kde icons menu, opening the various sub
menus, closing them moving the mouse over the preferred icons and the
system hangs. SO some problem occurs with grapahical environments.

Ok I've switched to dark theme of Plasma repeating the procedure. PLASMA
has problems. I noted that sometimes opening the start menu some
graphical issue was visible, but now I can state that there are
graphical problems about the desktop environment. It is possible to see
