A fix for this has been merged upstream:
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/merge_requests/134
I believe this should make it into the 14.0 release.

Hi. I'm running Mint-19.0 Tara, based largely on Ubuntu debs. I can confirm the

Will this fix make it into 4.15.0-xx?

Hi,
This still affects both 14.04 and 16.04 (and probably affects the newer
non-LTS releases). We apply a patch downstream, which I've attached.

This problem is still present on more recent versions of Ubuntu. We
currently locally patch it to allow home directories to be owned by
either the relevant user, or root.
It would be great if this was patched upstream.

It's hard to tell whether this was the result of an upgrade - I think
this behaviour has always been present in the 14.04 stock kernels, but
we noticed it less until recently.
I'll look into testing the latest upstream kernel and get back to you.

I'll leave this bug as "Invalid" in the sense that there seems to be no
fault with the package. A fresh download allowed it to be installed

the installer and the update manager. I guess I'll start a fresh bug

I have just installed 10.04 (in parallel with 9.10) and find I have the
same problem here (and also with the Live CD).
A few bits of information incase it is helpful:
Matrox G550 graphics card
Ubuntu 2.6.32-22-generic

I'm going back to 9.10 for now.
