The bug still partially persists with 9.10:
- The system now stays suspended until I press a key (note that using the
touchpad has no effect)
- The touchpad does not respond after the system resumes.
I've marked the bug as new since nothing happened for quite some time

I think I've tracked it down a little further.
It seems that only X freezes not the system as a whole. I was able to
trigger this bug from a remote computer via ssh and gather the logs
afterwards. Here's what I did:
$ ssh lo...@ubuntu-9.10

$ export XAUTHORITY=/var/run/gdm/au

Here is the output of dmesg.
Can anyone reproduce this?

Yeah good to know that the error is reproducible. I'm not yet entirely
convinced that we have the same problem. Maybe trying to use xrandr
directly instead of gnome-display-settings would shed some light on
this.
In the meanwhile I got sure we really have the same/a similar graphics
chip.
This is
I too experience this problem - on a Sony Vaio VPCW11S1E and a fresh

The system freezes completely when I do one of the following things:

I've used the kubuntu-experimental overlay before I upgraded to jaunty
one month ago. And it seems there was still a stale package 'network-
manager-kde' installed that caused the crash. I uninstalled this package
and installed 'plasma-widget-network-manager'. The applet starts now
without crashing
I attached the apport generated crash information, reproduced with the
recent version of ubuntu.
