I don't see how it's a bug in network manager. I have network manager
disabled and use /etc/network/interfaces directly to connect to the
internet, I'm still online, but firefox assumes I'm not. Assuming
network-manager accurately displays the networking status is the bug.
The original bug report
The gutsy seed for the live cd (ship-live) at
http://codebrowse.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu-
seeds/ubuntu.gutsy points to ndiswrapper-utils-1.8 and so ndiswrapper
(which is version 1.9 in the repos) doesnt show up on the tribe live CDs
(see http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/gutsy/tribe-2

ndiswrapper isnt on the feisty live CD. I think this might be because
ndiswrapper-utils-1.8 is referred to in the seed but 1.9 is the current
package.
The same problem is in the gutsy seeds.

Module fglrx isn't loaded

Removing fglrx in /etc/modprobe.d/ and running update-modules results in
the module being loaded fine on boot, but putting this file back causes
it to not be loaded again, it can still be modprobed by hand afterwards.
Is there anything else I can do to debug this?

It does work when sudo modprobe fglrx is run manually. Don't have a
separate /usr partition
This was working until the last couple of updates. I'm not sure why

You mean you are trying to update while in the live CD before
installing?
You should run the installer to install edgy on your hard drive, then
run update manager.

Also it is probably advisable to use "gksu update-manager -c -d" rather
than apt-get dist-upgrade as it has special magic to make upgrades work
better

Would it not be a good idea to replace the compiz package in universe
with official compiz head 0.2 when released, to avoid alot of confusion
after edgy release, as a major reason for the fork was namespace issues?
