I had to install the old imagemagick 6 libs to hack-around issues in the
version 7.

Correction..
I got plasma to work by deleting the cache. But when I went to add the default
panel, I was back in crashville.

It's a hack, but it doesn't show the error anymore:
cd /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/
sudo ln -s libreadline.so.6 libreadline.so
sudo ldconfig
I haven't tested rvc, I just know it doesn't give the ffi error anymore.

After rebuilding parts of my /var directory and reinstalling most my
.deb packages things have been stable. (Well most things, I have been to
lazy to set the correct permissions on /var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db)
I am guessing "something" corrupted/delete many of my /var
directories/files. It hasn't
I recreated the missing dir/file by running:
mkdir /var/lib/apt
mkdir /var/lib/apt/lists
mkdir /var/lib/dpkg
touch /var/lib/apt/lists/lists
mkdir /var/lib/apt/lists/partial
touch /var/lib/dpkg/status
mkdir /var/lib/dpkg/updates
touch /var/lib/dpkg/available

I'll confirm that vmware workstation 6.5 complains about Ubuntu
8.10beta's lack of /dev/rtc. While the right answer might be to report a
bug with vmware, the easy fix would be to have Ubuntu symlink the file.

Earlier today (Oct 14, 2008) I ran the update at work, then shutdown my
laptop. The shutdown hung

I just upgraded my xserver-xorg-video-intel to:

My guess is Intrepid is using older intel drivers.

I recently upgraded (swapped hard drives) to an HP Compaq 6910p. It also
has an Intel GM965/GL960 video device. I am getting the same results as
you when running KDE 4.0.0.98 with KWin Compositing effects enabled. I
was able to get video working by editing ~/.kde4/share/config/kwinrc and
setting Co

The upgrade failed.
/var/log/dist-upgrade/ said it couldn't resolve libsmokeqt. After the failed
upgrade I removed libsmokeqt package and started the update again. The 2nd time
the update worked. Sadly it clobbered my dist-upgrade logs so I can't show you
the exact error.
