Had the same problem without medibuntu repository. A regular update 5min
ago, over the update-manager installed all packages without any problem.
Problem is fixes for me.

I have problems with my Xtreme Audio, too.
System: ubuntu 9.10 (64bit) upgraded from 9.04 and in Live-environment(9.10)
The card is recognized, but when I press play in any application, the counter
rests by 0:00 min and there is no sound.
As mentioned before, the problem exists also after booting
