Using the the alternate installer cd it is working now on my machine
:-))
In case you have the same problem or need some infos about my system I attached
the outout of hwinfo --short (in short_hwinfo.txt).

I changed the file system from reiserfs as suggested in some answers/bug
reports around
(e.g.: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/445199 ).
First I tried ext2, which did not work. Then I used the "use whole disk"
option, where ext4 is used
but the installer chrashed again. (
