After boot or logout, login screen slow to appear, and I cannot type in
my password for 4 to 5 seconds after login screen has appeared.

I've tried @Jeff's solution, but did not work for me unfortunately. The
issue remains even after switching themes via the Unity Tweak Tool
multiple times.
After upgrading to Ubuntu 16.10 I cannot use "compiz --replace" as well,
it simply freezes the UI except the mouse cursor.

Disk one, Seagate barracuda 500 gig - ext4 - sda3 on /
Disk two, Samsung spinpoint 500 gig - ext4 - sdb1 on /home
I tried booting into the recovery mode with the shell and networking.
After a few seconds nothing, no jdb2. No disk activity
I am experiencing an identical issue, with a reversed MAC address. I am
also using an Asus motherboard (M2NBP-VM CSM).

Tried the patch but it won't work. nm is still overwriting
/etc/resolv.conf.

I'm a newcomer to Linux, Ubuntu, command lines and all. I think I'm
having a similar problem to the one posted in this thread. I will post
what I wrote down from the screen and see if anyone might be able to
