Cool. So, the exact steps are:
edit /etc/apt/sources.list, change 'hardy' to 'gutsy' everywhere
With what commands to I downgrade xserver-xorg-*? How do I "pin" it?
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-* --pin?
Then, I edit /etc/apt/sources.list and go from 'gutsy' back to 'hardy'

also does not happen after a set time, as you would expect if it were display
power management.

Installation on Ubuntu Feisty (I think this problem is in Edgy too) has
version of R 2.4.1. When one installs python-rpy, however, it only
intalls _rpy2040.so, which is useless for this version of R. The
solution is to include _rpy2041.so in
