This is a papercut / quality of life issue that's really annoying me.
On other file managers, if you set an .sh file as executable, it will
offer to do something. With Ubuntu + Nautilus, it always by default just
opens it in a text editor. This is really annoying and frankly
I'm afraid I only have 18.10 to test, which it did solve. Don't see why
it would be any different with 18.04 and absolutely should not just be
dropped after five days.

the new Steam Controller driver breaks it on Steam
I enabled proposed updates, upgraded and removed my blacklist on
hid_steam and rebooted.
Using lsmod after the reboot I can see hid_steam is there.
First test with Rocket League, seemed to work fine and it was detected
as a gamepad properly. The game did crash just after I got in a game
though. S
The issue is at stated, the hid steam driver in Kernel 4.18.
There is a patch available here from the creator of the driver to fix

Actually, this isn't exactly fixed.
While it's true the cursor no longer turns tiny, it's stuck onto one
single cursor. When browing the web, you no longer get different cursors
while hovering over things like links and such. Basically, you now only
have one single cursor.

How this hasn't been sorted yet is beyond me for such a simple issue

I also have this issue with both 32 and 64bit Ubuntu and happens on
every login.
The purple background + mouse cursor loads up and you seem to have to
just sit their and wait until the panels and your actual desktop loads
up - seems like such an obvious thing to slip through bug testing.

Basically the program got quickly slower and then stopped letting me see
new messages, if i minimized and conversation and got it back it would
be a completely blank box and same happened with buddy list, and then it
just crashed out with apport.
I can confirm with Beta version with updates applied, left clicking on
restricted drivers manager will crash it!

I am also having the exact same problem doing "top" in terminal shows
firefox using massive amounts of cpu like a person pointed out in the
thread linked above!
