I'm using an Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller
and the fix didn't work for me--I still can't get desktop effects
working. My system is completely up to date by the way.

This bug affects me as well. I tend to have DVDs stored in their file
format on my hard drive (eg Caddyshack/VIDEO_TS/). Because of this, I
set folder to open with totem--that way I can quickly open DVD folders
in totem via a right click. Because there is no longer an "open with"
option in the p

I have tried disabling nautilus's file preview through
nautilus-->edit-->preferences-->preview but it didn't work. I also
tried to disable this in gconf-editor-->desktop-->gnome-->thumbnailers
but still no luck.

Could you please be a bit more specific about what to temporarily change in the
/usr/sbin/gdm line? Also, how were you able to edit that when X keeps
restarting. I ask because I couldn't even log in when I had this problem.
