My system runs fine whenever I don't use openoffice. Once I start to use
it, xorg freezes. The mouse pointer moves, but delayed. No button
response. Caps-lock led does not come on when pressing caps-lock.

the kernel I choose to open a new bug report.
The system still freezes form time to time.

Small problem. Although apport and launchpadlib are installed on my
system, typing apport-collect in my terminal gives the "command not
found" error.

This may be a kernel problem. Freezes occur much less after upgrading
from 8.04 to 8.10 but they still occur.
I was just looking at the system log to find out what was going on and
there, it freezes again. No firefox open or any other program.

Update: this has nothing to do with OOo. My problem is the same as in

This problem occurs in any application. Before I upgraded from dapper
drake to hardy heron everything worked with no freezes at all. Therefore
this is not a hardware problem. I runned the standard hardware test on
my system and everthing worked just fine.
