I dit what I should do, but the upgrate didn't work, I got the message, that I
should go to terminal, to contact you because of that.
Somehow there was also a problem with some packages.

I am also affected by this, seing this in 13.10. I can reproduce the
behavior by executing an
echo "disk" >/sys/power/state
which always brings me to the Grub menu after waking up the system from
S4. If I execute the command from entry #9 above:
grub-editenv /boot/grub/grubenv unset recordfail

I have the same symptoms and i could track it to $HOME/.config/user-dirs.dirs
Some time ago I defined XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR to $HOME/Desktop and removing that
line seems to fix this problem.

I have a similar problem on my Dell D600 laptop when booting with the 2.6.31-14
kernel which was part of the upgrade to 9.10;
basically I get one mouse-click & then the system freezes - ALt-CTRL-DEl
doesn't work and I have to shut down by pulling the
powerplug & removing the battery.
if I boot wi
ng up or glibc error (I did a fresh installation of 8.10
before going back to 8.04 but without luck) - I haven't been game to try
9.04 yet.

oupps, this is a bug reported under firefox - I just wanted to say that
it affected OO as well, not file the reoprt again. I can't see how to
delete it

After upgrading from 8.04 to 8.10 (AMD 64-bit), several applications crash when
trying to browse to access a file, e.g. to upload an e-mail attachment in
thunderbird 2.0.0.18 or to upload a file using either firefox 3.0.4 or galeon
2.0.6.

Confirmed...after upgrading from 7.10 to 8.04 it defaults to about half
the signal level and sets the bit rate 1M.
Running 'sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M' increases the tranfer rate but
the signal level is still a lot lower then in 7.10.
$ iwconfig wlan0
wlan0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"freebsdap"
I am experiencing the same problem using Nvidia GeForce 6150 LE with
nvidia-glx driver on Feisty 7.04 installation. Processor is AMD Athlon
64 X2 Dual Core 5000+. The error occurs with gdm and kdm. Rebooting
solves the problem. But I wished I didn't have to keep rebooting my
machine.

using the wireless card under windows XP
c) my partner was using his windows XP laptop at
the same time w/out problems

I have encountered a similar problem; installed kubuntu 7.04 from live CD on
14/4 & implemented all updates available.
wireless card (Intel mini PCI 2100; dell D600) worked fine.
installed further updates available (including a kernel update) on 15/4; now
wireless connection kept dropping
