Just started my PC this morning and I have been working more than 20 minutes
without a crash. Only missing stuff is the battery monitor applet in my top
panel.
I didn't remove it myself, so it has maybe just failed to start for one reason
or another.
I'll try to unplug my PC see if it causes xo
Yes, 625902 is definitely a duplicate of this one (or vice versa). I
marked it as such.
As for the bug, I install from Maverick Beta from DVD on another
computer and I face the same problem.
Both computers I use are HP laptops. One 32 bits and the other in 64.

I face the same problem.
A few remarks and addition:
- My battery is old and does not retain charge anymore
- The characters after "checking battery state" are random (So I suspect a
memory corruption in one component)
- It does not crash directly on log on every time. I once had the time to start
Just added it to the Paper cut project since I believe this to be the kind of
usability bug that paper cut project intends to fix.
I'm not really sure about the workload to solve it though.
I hope someone will have enough knowledge of update manager to triage it.

Strange, because /var is mounted as part of / in my configuration

Hello,
Indeed, the advice of Claudio did work for me too:
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/gdm && sudo aptitude reinstall gdm
Just reinstalling (without suppression of /var/lib/gdm) did not work.
/var/lib/gdm was empty on my computer before I deleted it and it still empty
after reinstallation.

Finally managed to successfully connect to my NFS server.
Steps to solve the problem:
* Add the following line to /etc/nsswitch.conf:
automount: nis files
* Change my /etc/auto.nfs config file by removing the options and leaving only
the local folder and the target

Same problem here: NFS disk mounted via autofs does not mount since
upgrade to lucid.
Besides, when trying to stop/restart the service, I encounter the following
result:
$ service autofs restart

Just for the record, the same problem (at least for the Ubiquity part) happens
in the Lucid Alpha 3 Ubiquity (updated before the install).
I have a French keyboard that was correctly detected, but I had to select it
manually to have proper input in the "Who are you" screen.

Thanks for the information.
Isn't it a bit extreme to crash when no sound card is available ?
I guess that testing for the existence of a sound card and exiting (maybe
with an error message) would be more user friendly.

Hello,
Unfortunately, I had less chances than Gunter. I tried the package, but it
didn't help.
I'm running Jaunty on an HP Pavilion TX 2000 (tablet PC).
I'm available if you need more information.

Quentin.

Any chance to get it backported in gutsy ?
I did compile the 0.7 version manually and everything is working smoothly, so I
guess packaging it would be possible.
Thanks.

Killing and restarting the application allows connecting. Not critical,
but pretty annoying...
