I solved the problem by purging the installation and installing a fresh
and clean intrepid ibex image from cd. Probably not the best way to ever
find out if the problem has been solved by now.

"Like everytime i boot up, the screen constantly refreshing. like it
would load up and like .5 sec later it would go away and comeback in .5
sec and it keep doing this over and over again
