It does seem a lot like Mozilla trying to assert their authority over
all things Firefox, which is definitely not a good path to be going
down. As the EULA is assumed accepted anyway, can it not be hidden out

I'm guessing we have the same laptop. There's a more specific model

Exactly the same symptoms though; I can confirm that a cold boot works

When I resume my Compaq C757EA laptop from hibernation, if the core
temperature sensor is below about 43 degrees Celsius, it simply reports
back as 0 degrees and stays that way. Of course, this means that ACPI
never turns the fan on because the system is apparently freezing. I

Just adding my voice, I had the issue where auto-configure wouldn't
detect my Intel 965, and in addition displayconfig-gtk wouldn't change
the driver either. I could only resolve the issue by installing xserver-

I think this may be related to this bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/initramfs-tools/+bug/129910
As splashy relies on vga=xxx being enabled, so if it isn't working (my
ttys are broken as well), then it's likely not doing splashy any favours
either.
