I now use version 2.3-1ubuntu4 of audacious.
I haven't used it much. So far it hasn't caused any trouble.

One time I noticed also that it was hogging down the processor and had to kill
it.

I have a LG A1 Express Dual with intel HDA ALC883.
Running an up to date Karmic. (fixed my ethernet driver issue :))
Never had any sound problems with earlier versions of ubuntu (from 3 years ago
until now).
No sound whatsoever. No headphone, no speaker sound.

Just updated to jaunty. I have an LG A1. I have the same problem.
