[Solved] Just after my bad-tempered rant above I stumbled across a way
to recover from this problem...
Delete all the contents of the cache folder in the folder and
also delete all the places.* files - you lose your history but the live
bookmarks work again ;-))

It is also not possible to delete one of these wayward bookmarks. If I
try to delete one of them, simply nothing happens.
Does anyone feel responsible for trying to correct such errors? Is there
an 'owner' for live bookmarks? I'd be happy to try to help if anyone
feels that keeping Firefox on top
I can also confirm this bug in Firefox 3.0.3 and 3.0.4. It seems to be
getting worse as at first it only affected one link but now almost all
are affected.

As of today, with all updates, this is still a problem.
I have kept the output of lshw and the syslog for the period (see
attachments). It looks to me like my two ethernet cards eth0/1 get
swapped around from the irq point of view. Maybe this will help someone
get a better understanding of the pro

It was due to the Lightning extension. I had the version 0.7 of
Lightning installed and the Ubuntu installation updated Thunderbird but
not the Lightning extension. Funnily Thunderbird did not complain about
the incompatible Lightning extension. Anyway after uninstalling
Lightning and inst
