Bump. I just did a source install of partimage on lucid and built from
source on amd64 without any trouble. Creating a partition image worked
perfectly on this arch. The only problem seems to be that the Debian
buildd team is waiting for the Debian maintainer to remove the arch from
the blacklist.
The attached patch works for me. As it changes the logic for treating
included dirs a bit it should be reviewed with care before general
inclusion into the package.

workaround to your environment.
I suggest you try to find out whether halevt functions properly by
running it in the foreground:
$ sudo /etc/init.d/halevt stop
