The computers I had problems on used an ATI card using the restricted
fglrx driver and an Nvidia card using their restricted driver,
respectively. (But does not most people use that nowadays?)

I opened the "about" page and closed it when the crash occured.
I had been debugging a program, and pychecker was also enabled.
I run ubuntu 8.04
The package
numpy/distutils/system_info.py can definitely not find atlas, because
atlas detection is commented out. See attached diff against official
distribution of the same version. Seems like someone forgot to clean up
a hack?
