I have both of these issues *and* the issue reported in #92
My system:

I have this same issue, but the solution of switching to hibernate does
not work on my machine
sudo pm-hibernate results in a full shutdown and sudo pm-suspend-hybrid
crashes bluetooth until a subsequent restart.
I am on kernel 4.4.0-109-generic

Unfortunately the "solution" from @unhammer removes the messaging applet
and the sound control, which isn't really a usable fix for me.

Cinnamon on 14.04 brand new install:

I Synced my time using ntpd and restarted Pithos and it's all working.
I thought the error was cute, but when I realized it was preventing
pithos from working I became upset.
