Ok, a bit more research and it appears that this error occurs when I
login to the Wayland session, but if I log into the X11 session,
Synaptic works fine.

I just upgraded to 10.04 LTS both with an upgrade from 9.10 and
subsequently through a clean install of 10.04 LTS x64 from the install
CD.
I am having difficulty mounting optical media. Sometimes it will mount
a disk, but often it will "unmount" on its own without any input either
from the user o

still getting the same error. Any suggestions?
