Closed the lid, re-opened it.
While it was closed, I took out a memory card and put it back in before
I resumed. I don't know if this is related...
Anyway this is the second time this has happened. I can't find a
pattern, suspend and resume has previously worked.

It is basically impossible to open ANY file from firefox's download
window.
This is a major usability issue.
A temporary work around would be nice.

Here is a workaround that may work for some...
It is possible to pass the usb serial vendor and product id as a kernel
parameter.
The easiest way to do this is to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst (you will need
root access so from a terminal window type "sudo gedit
