If by "work fine" you mean that I am able to watch videos without
freezing then yes it does. If you mean that the issues described in the
original bug report are fixed then no, there has been no change since
gutsy afaIc.

Ok, last time I was messing around with a live-cd. I took the time today
to make some room on my hard drive, I installed and updated hardy. I
tried "greedy" again. It did not freeze this time. Although it did
nothing to address the issue, it seems that there is very little
difference in performance
By hard freeze I mean the entire system locked up to where I could only
move the mouse with the only option open to me being a restart.

Bryce, I recently downloaded hardy alpha 5 and tested the method you
suggested and I got a hard freeze when I tried to play a video (the one
in the Ubuntu Examples folder) with compiz enabled.

The issue does not exsist when compiz is turned off. It's confirmed on
gutsy and hardy. I have attached an archive with all the requested
files. Do we know what is the issue? If so, are there any working
patches?

Did you install any other version of kde prior to installing kde 4?
If so then try creating a new user and running only kde 4 do not run anyother
desktop environment.
Also, Have you tried changing the fonts in kde 4? Perhaps there is a missing
effect or package that kde 4 did not install.

Edit: I also wanted to point out that this issue is not only with totem,
but with other players as well.

Public bug reported:
When compiz is enabled, playing a video in totem (or music with
visualizations turned on) leads to strange things. For example moving
the video player leaves the actual video behind until the player is
dropped. Also, making totem transparent, leads the video to become
black. A
Honestly, if the license premits, then I think it would be much better
to setup the Restricted Drivers manager to handle this using
ndiswrapper. The ndiswrapper drivers tend to work really well for this
card. I have this working myself (Linksys WUSB54gv) on feisty and I
haven't had a freeze but fro
Ok, I spoke too soon. The upgrade went past the dselect phase, so that

ok, silly me. After an apt-get -f install it seem the dselect upgrade
issue is no longer there, but I was not told to do this by apt-get

I'll keep "you" posted on whether or not the filesystem issue comes up
again.

Maybe I missed this but where do I add DisableIRQ in xorg.conf??
I reccomend that the driver be spearated from the kernel. Perhaps put
the extra .deb on the cd so that it can be installed via synaptic (like
the ndiswrapper driver) (for the next ubuntu release that is). This
would stop the problems
The problem is in the Ubuntu patches as Debian unstable does not suffer
this problem.
Is there anyway we can get a kernel that doesn't have the wifi drivers
in it? I belive that has alot to do with the instability. Or could
someone point me to where I can find the Ubuntu kernel patches and
source?
Using the command
sudo dhclient rausb0

p4 1.7ghz Desktop with 512 mb of ram. However using the GUI for
networking I the computer hangs. Sometimes it hangs on it's own. This
problem also happens with the ndiswrapper drivers for
muadib how do you think the wifi and xorg are related to the hanging of
the pc? I have suspected this but I have had no evidence to belive this.
Or is it something to do with IRQ? I have had the same exact problem
with Arch Linux as well, using both the native linux driver (rt2570) as
well as ndisw
