This does appear to be a duplicate of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1302264 . I have
updated everything this morning and the problem appears to be fixed.

I can confirm this as well running Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 on a Sony VAIO f12
series laptop with Nvidia 210m. I have tried the latest NVidia driver
(nvidia-333 in the repository) as well as Nouveau with the same result.
The system will hang at the loading screen as described earlier. The
