I am using Ubuntu 9.10 with Firefox 3.5.5 and cannot hear sounds on the
internet.
My computer plays music CD's and DVD's without any problem.
Could it be a plugin or add-on that is causing the problem?

I have installed the boot loader "gag" and then reinstalled Ubuntu 7.10.
The DVD now still works under Windows Vista but again not under Ubuntu.
When I click on the CD-ROM1 icon it says that /dev/scd0 does not exist.
I have created this directory but on reboot it is not there.
I have tried to edit
Going into Applications/ System Tools/ Configuration Editor/
system/storage/default_options/vfat/mount_options, and then remove the
"usefree" option from the list.
Exit gconf-editor, and try hotplugging your drive again.
This worked for me in Ubuntu 7.10.
