Flashing the BIOS did the trick!
I can confirm that flashing the BIOS on my MSI Wind u100 solved this
problem.
I downloaded the 1.0G BIOS and utility (n011_10g.zip file) from MSI's

I can confirm this on both Ubuntu Karmic and Linux Mint Helena.
If I set "Application Font" to ANY size with a decimal point in it, such
as 13.5, the NotifyOSD messages become extremely small and unreadable.
