Actually, it seems that maybe the bug was just some temporary or
intermittent problem. Now my backlight controls work again, I didn't
change anything :-/ I'm running with the "thinkpad-
acpi.brightness_enable=1 acpi_backlight=vendor". I'll try without it
too.

stuff on my system so removing the nvidia driver maybe solves the

I believe this issue was closed too soon. I am running hardy and I
encounter this problem from time to time - I haven't noticed any
regularity except that the last few days it keeps happening all the time
so that's why I finally ended up here after googling about it.

I have the same problem on my ThinkPad T42 2373-Y9H... recently after
upgrading to Feisty. Removing stopping bluetooth service and removing
bluetooth modules (bluetooth, rfcomm, l2cap) doesn't help. I can't try
the "stop wifi" workaround because I actually use wifi to connect to the
Internet.
