The 18.10 repositories already provide Guake 3.3.0:
https://packages.ubuntu.com/cosmic/guake
I truly believe 18.04 LTS users are stuck with the buggy Guake version
3.0.5, unless there is a 3.0.6 release. Most end-users will not know to
hunt for this bug, nor how to fix it manually by editing a *.
So this fix will never make it to the Ubuntu 18.04 repositories? It was
applied a long time ago upstream, yet the latest version in the 3.0.x
series is 3.0.5, which contains the bug. According to Ubuntu's package
update policies, 18.04 users will forever be stuck with 3.0.x. There is
no version 3.0
Fully updated Xubuntu 16.04.1, and this bug still exists. Definitely the
most annoying, longstanding bug for Xubuntu / Xfce users.
I don't want to place the panel on the top of the screen, since it
breaks Fitt's Law for closing windows and clicking on Google Chrome
browser tabs.

I concur. Ubuntu 14.04, which is an LTS release, should update
libavcodec to version 54.35.1 or higher.

Binary package hint: xfdesktop4
Verified on Xubuntu 11.04 beta 2.
Upstream xfdesktop crashes when the user logs out or tries to
reboot/shutdown the system (with xorg-server 1.10). This makes it
impossible to reboot or shutdown the system as a user while logged in.
The "fix"
This does not only happen to applications run as root (like Synaptic)
but also user applications, like Guake, mentioned above. It happens even
on Mint 9, if you download the theme manually. Not sure if this is
related, but the Mint-X and Mint-X-Metal theme also causes GCstar to
freeze: https://bugs
@Milton, comment #9:
For the time-being, try the temporary workaround in comment #5. It's not
a "fix" but it works, until gnome-power-manager is patched.

I applied the gconf workaround (ran in a terminal as the current user),
and it seems to fix the problem, for the time being.
I notice that it will still report the battery as 100% charged with only
2 minutes remaining, but it will not suspend; it acts as if the battery
is not at a critical level a
Reply to comment #5:
So the gconf workaround will force gnome-power-manager to read the
"percetage remaining" in order to dictate critical battery level,
instead of "time remaining"?

A more accurate description of the problem: The indicator applet will
report the battery is 100% charged, but it will also say "2 minutes
remaining", in which it will suspend.

This also affects me on the final stable release of Xubuntu 9.10, MSI
Wind u100. The brightness goes insane, flipping from brighter to darker
to brighter, in an endless loop. This is a pretty severe bug.
