I just tried installing today on Ubuntu 16.04. I get the same error. Is
there a fix yet? Or some type of workaround? Thanks.

Yes, I was getting stereo in Windows. The problem has since go away though,
sorry not to update the bug report. I dont know what did the trick, a
general update or my messing around with pulse audio.

Extra visual effects work fine when enabled in Appearances. However,
they are disabled when a new session is started.

Visual effects do not enable at start-up.
In the Appearance Preferences none of the buttons are checked.
Checking the Extra Button resets all the Compiz settings, so I too have worked
around this by reloading the window manager in Compiz Icon.

Hello,
I have a Dell laptop with a broken audio out port, so can't get sound
through speakers or headphones. As a work-around I purchased a USB audio
adapter.
It works, but only on one channel, the left. Both stereo channels go
through the left so there is no loss of sound.
