This bug is still present. I used the original fix from over a year ago (nvidia-xconfig then nvidia-settings). Why so hard to add a prompt to run nvidia-xconfig to the .deb package when it's installed if there's not a valid xorg.conf on the system? Hours of frustration here. -- nvidia-settings
