This seems to be a regression.
After upgrade to 11.04, hibernate was still available and also worked. After
some update with the update-manager, the option was not available anymore, only
suspend to ram is still available.

I think this bug can be closed because I don't have the original problem
anymore - only the one described in comment #4.

My machine did not freeze. I had a /usr/bin/xine binary with 0 bytes
size and Xine did not start.
After today's updates I got a crash report about the same problem.
I uninstalled xine-ui and got the same error. Then I installed it again,
got the same error but:

Regarding 100% CPU usage and the system freezing/hanging when on battery
power - I could see that when this happens, there are lots of w, pidof
and killall processes. When I connect again to AC power, the system
calms down again.

I forgot to mention the Linux power-off bug with the notebook:

Besides the power-off issue, suspend to disk always worked fine. Since the
upgrade 9.04 -> 9.10 I get the crash reported here almost every time after
resume.
