Could you try this and report the change / success ? This "fix" seems
to work on IBM thinkpads.

in the file /etc/default/acpi-support changing
HIBERNATE_MODE=shutdown to HIBERNATE_MODE=platform helped solve the
problem for me on an IBM T42 laptop.
