I am having this problem with an up to date, fresh install of feisty
xubuntu. I use the same settings as above except that I *do* have
minimized application desktop icons. If I simply check "Show desktop
menu on right click" then the problem goes away.

okay, first off, after running "gnome-session-remove gnome-panel &&
gnome-panel --sync" and repeating the crash, I got this in the terminal:

Sorry, I had forgotten about this bug as I haven't used dual monitors
