When adjusting the master volume control with the gnome applet, it
forgets the relative balance settings of the master channel, and pairs
them as equal, meaning there is no easy way to adjust the master volume
on a systems with un-even balan
I have the same thing on Ubuntu 9.04. It happens with both Firefox and
Opera when set to default browser respectively.

I can confirm this behaviour on both intrepid and jaunty.
The behaviour initially started after enabling automatic user login (in
Administration->Login Window) although now it seems to not go away.
The problem is sporadic, affecting me around 50% of the time at present.
